The Attorney General's Office filed several criminal charges today naming Michael Strope, former Linn County facilities manager.
The charges were contained in a trial information filed today in Linn County District Court in Cedar Rapids. The charges were: three counts of theft in the first degree, and three counts of felonious misconduct in office by falsifying a public record.
Theft in the first degree is a Class C felony, punishable by up to ten years in prison and a fine of $500 to $10,000. Felonious misconduct in office is a Class D felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of $500 to $7,500.
A warrant for Strope's arrest was issued by a Linn County District Court judge today, and Strope was arrested this afternoon. Bond was set at approximately $67,000.
Arraignment was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, August 19.
The matter is being handled by the Attorney General's Office upon request of the Linn County Attorney's office.
