Statement
of the Attorney General's Office:
The Attorney General's
Consumer Protection Division filed a felony criminal charge Wednesday
against a Georgia telemarketer.
Steven Edward Gordon of 755 Windwalk Drive, Roswell, GA, faces a charge
of Conspiracy to Commit Theft of more than $5,000, a Class D felony
punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of $500 to $7,500.
A warrant was issued for Gordon's arrest.
The preliminary complaint, filed in Polk Country District Court, states
that Gordon manages an office supply telemarketing operation in Alpharetta,
Georgia, called North American Distribution, or N.A.D. It states that
"callers representing N.A.D. phone Iowa businesses, trying to deceive
office workers into making a product order" by falsely telling the
workers that their boss already agreed to the orders. "Gordon conspired
with others to commit such thefts," the complaint states.
